One Dimensional Motion Problems

One Dimensional Motion Practice Problem Set

Walk through our one dimensional motion practice problem set below.  These have problems with constant motion, accelerated motion, and acceleration due to gravity mixed in.

One Dimensional Motion Concept Map

This concept map helps you choose the right equation.  It helps you think about givens written as words or associated with an object in free fall.

Note About Our 1D Motion Solutions:

  • We did not put a direction in the answer when a direction was not specified and it was not a gravity question.  On any of those questions the direction you could add would be forward.
  • We did not use significant figures in our answers and just included a few decimal points where appropriate
  • All solutions are explained in the video here

Mixed 1D Motion Problem Set

1. What is the final velocity of a bicycle starting at 2.0 m/s accelerating at 1.5 m/s2 for 3.0 seconds?

vf = 6.5 m/s

Watch the video above to see how to solve this problem

2. What is the initial velocity of a ball thrown down off a building that hit the ground at 32 m/s after 2.0 seconds?

vi = 12 m/s down
